The Kids' Court School at the UNLV Boyd School of Law will host its 1,000th Child Celebration from 2:00 to 6:30 p.m. on March 13. The Kids’ Court School, a 2012 Harvard University Bright Idea Award winner, is a nationally recognized program that educates children and youth about the judicial process and teaches strategies to reduce system-related stress. The celebration will begin with an overview of the Kids’ Court School and a demonstration of the program, including a mock trial. Dr. Karen Saywitz, a Professor at the UCLA School of Medicine, and an international expert on the capabilities, limitations, needs, and well-being of children involved in the legal system, will give the keynote address, “The History of Child Witness Research and Its Link to Practice.” A reception will follow.
Judges, lawyers, mental health professionals, and others who work with children and youth involved in the judicial process are encouraged to attend this exciting and educational event.
