Boyd Law Brings Hybrid J.D. Pathways and Career Insights to Great Basin College

Dean Leah Chan Grinvald and members of the William S. Boyd School of Law team hosted a Pre-Law Conference in collaboration with Great Basin College (GBC) in Elko, NV. The event offered GBC students, staff, and faculty a chance to explore pathways into the legal profession and learn about Boyd’s new Part-Time Hybrid J.D. Program. Recruitment for the Hybrid Program is currently underway, with its inaugural class beginning in Fall 2027.

"We have seen incredible interest in the hybrid program from prospective students across Nevada who are eager to pursue a legal education without having to relocate," said Professor Thomas Main, Director of the Hybrid J.D. Program. "Partnering with schools like Great Basin College allows us to expand access to legal education and support aspiring law students in all communities."

Local legal professionals Hiliary Wilson (Nevada Gold Mines), Tyler Ingram (Elko County District Attorney), Judge Mason Simons (Fourth Judicial District Court & Boyd Law alumnus), and Angie Portel (Ruby Mountain Law) were on hand to share their perspectives on practicing in the Elko community and to network with the participants.

Dean Grinvald also visited the Great Basin Children’s Advocacy Center alongside Program Manager Tanya Yell, Tyler Ingram, and Julie Cavanaugh-Bill, Past President of the State Bar of Nevada. Additionally, she met with Ben Gaumond, President of the Elko County Bar Association.
