Special guest commentary by Amos Sawyer, former President of Liberia (1990-1994)

PRAY THE DEVIL BACK TO HELL is the gripping account of a group of brave and visionary women who demanded peace for Liberia, a nation torn to shreds by a decades-old civil war. The women's historic yet unsung achievement finds voice in a narrative that intersperses contemporary interviews, archival images, and scenes of present-day Liberia together to recount the experiences and memories of the women who were instrumental in bringing lasting peace to their country.

Members of the UNLV faculty participating in the panel discussion immediately following the screening:

  • Lois Helmbold - Professor and Chair, Department of Women’s Studies
  • Tiffiany Howard - Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science
  • Michelle Kuenzi - Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science

This event is co-sponsored by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, UNLV Department of Women’s Studies, and Movies that Matter.

Conflict Resolution and the Economic Crisis--A Conference

Date: February 12-13, 2010

The Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution at the Boyd School of Law, UNLV, together with a consortium of local practitioners, is putting together a conference for February 12-13, 2010 that is tentatively entitled:  "The Economic Crisis and Conflict Resolution."  Our goal is to bring together people who have great ideas for how to use conflict  resolution tools to deal with aspects of our ongoing economic crisis.  Some likely topics would include foreclosure and bankruptcy mediation.  We are also looking for speakers on other subjects relating to the crisis, e.g. how to use conflict resolution tools to deal with layoffs, how to design dispute resolution systems when money is short, or how to use dispute resolution to help with new living arrangements. This list is not meant to be an exclusive, but rather to spark your creative juices.
