Boyd Students Win Regional Client Counseling Competition
UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law students Debra Amens and Cheryl Grames have won the 2012 ABA Client Counseling regional competition in Region 9.
The team competed in Sacramento over the weekend and now will advance to the national competition in Durham, N.C. from March 16-17.
Boyd School of Law professors Jean Sternlight and Rebecca Scharf coached the two.
In preparation for the competition, Amens and Grames utilized multiple clients for their practice sessions and received guidance and logistical support from professors and other professionals.
The ABA Law Student Division Client Counseling Competition is a simulation of a law office consultation. The students conduct an interview with a client and then explain how they would proceed.
The topic for this year’s competition was K-12 Education/School Law. UNLV’s team won the Region 9 competition, which includes competitors from Nevada, California, Arizona and Hawaii.
