Borrowing Privileges

Legal research materials work together like a complex machine: for the whole to function, all of the parts must be there. For that reason, most of the collection is non-circulating, and must remain in the library for all to use.

Items that do not circulate include: primary sources such as statutes, case reporters and administrative regulations; looseleaf services, digests, citators, reference materials, periodicals, individual volumes of multi-volume sets, and items listed as "library use only" in the catalog.

Items that do not fall into the above categories may be checked out to attorneys and the public for a three-week loan period. Items may be renewed for one additional three week period, unless a hold or recall has been requested by another law school affiliated patron. Fines will be charges for overdue items.

Interlibrary Loan

Attorneys and members of the public should visit any branch of the Las Vegas/Clark County Library System to order materials which are not available on campus. Any Clark County resident with a library card in good standing can use the service. Call 733-3615 for more information.

The Clark County Library in downtown Las Vegas also provides I.L.L. services for attorneys and the public. A $10 fee applies. Call 455-4696 for more information.

Online Services

Law Library Catalog
The Law Library online catalog is used to access books, journals, magazines, newspapers, microfiche and microfilm. It also allows students to access the holdings of other UNLV libraries, the Community College of Southern Nevada, and the Desert Research Institute. The catalog is designed to allow users to search the system with little or no previous instruction; however, if you need assistance please do not hesitate to ask one of the librarians.

Patrons can access the catalog from their home or office via the Internet. Click "Library Catalog" in the menu bar at left to initiate a connection.

We have also created a "Quick Reference Guide to Topics and Call Numbers." This page this page links selected topic areas to call number browse searches in the catalog, essentially showing what you would see if you walked up to the shelf in the corresponding call number area.

LegalTrac (Law School Bldg. Only)
Use LegalTrac to research law review articles. Covers all major law reviews, and specialty law and bar association journals.

LexisNexis and Westlaw (Password Required)
LexisNexis and Westlaw are available on the computer designated for public access to World Wide Web resources. However, patrons must have their own account and password to use these services.

Other Information

Photocopying
Three self-serve photocopy machines are available for public use. These copiers only accept UNLV authorized copy cards. The library will also photocopy materials for patrons for a fee; however, same-day service is not available and patrons must bring the items to be photocopied to the Circulation Desk and fill out a Photocopy Request Form.

Suggestions
Feel free to place written suggestions in the suggestion box near the Reference Desk. If you have concerns and would rather speak to someone in person, please see Matthew Wright .
