Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition
Students at the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV participate in the prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from over 500 law schools in more than 80 countries. The competition simulates a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. Representing both sides of the argument, each Jessup team is required to prepare written and oral pleadings.
International Law Society
The International Law Society (ILS) at the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV supplements the international law curriculum by organizing events that bring together guest speakers, faculty, and law students interested in various aspects of public and private international law. It provides a forum through which students may pursue their professional and social interests in international law. Each semester, the ILS sponsors social activities and speakers that promote academic discussion and global awareness. Recent speakers have included former White House press secretary Mike McCurry, discussing the One Vote08 Campaign, and University of Kentucky Professor David Moore, discussing the applicability of customary international law. Each fall semester, the ILS joins the UNLV Center for Democratic Culture in hosting a delegation of Russian judges in a public forum about the judicial branch in Russia. |
