Linda Berger is the Family Foundation Professor of Law at UNLV. Her research, writing, and teaching converge on the study and practice of legal rhetoric, drawing on cognitive psychology as well as composition, rhetoric, metaphor, and narrative theory. She is one of the co-editors of the U.S. Feminist Judgments Project, a collaborative effort to produce an edited collection of feminist re-visions of influential Supreme Court opinions.

Professor Berger will serve as President of the Legal Writing Institute (LWI) from 2014-16. She is a member of the LWI Board of Directors and the editorial board of the LWI Monograph Series. Professor Berger was a founder and the long-time editor of Legal Communication & Rhetoric: JALWD; she initiated and continues to co-edit the Law & Rhetoric e-Journal on SSRN's Legal Scholarship Network; and she was one of the first ALWD Visiting Scholars in Legal Communication & Rhetoric. She is a former member of the national board of directors of ALWD.

Professor Berger's early scholarship applied New Rhetoric composition theory to the reading and writing processes of law students and law teachers. In more recent articles, she blends persuasion science with rhetorical analysis, applying theory and research results from analogy, metaphor, and narrative studies to examine persuasive briefs and judicial opinions. Based on the resulting analyses, these articles recommend methods for professional legal writers to strengthen their effectiveness and persuasiveness. Professor Berger’s articles have been published in, among other outlets, the Journal of Legal Education, Legal Communication & Rhetoric, the Journal of the Legal Writing Institute, the Southern California Interdisciplinary Law Journal, the Journal of Law and Policy, the Houston Law Review, the Washburn Law Review, the Mercer Law Review, and the Loyola-LA Law Journal.

Prior to joining UNLV, Professor Berger taught at Mercer University School of Law in Macon, GA; the University of San Diego; and Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, where she designed and developed the legal writing program
