

During the Spring of 2004, Professor Markell published two casebooks: Securitization, Structured Finance and Capital Markets (LexisNexis 2004) (with Professors Steven L. Schwarcz and Lissa Broome); and Core Concepts in Commercial Law: Past, Present and Future (West Group 2004) (with Professor John Dolan of Wayne State and Dean Lawrence Ponoroff of Tulane). In 2002, Professor Markell (along with Professor David Epstein of Southern Methodist University and Dean Lawrence Ponoroff of Tulane) published a contracts casebook, Making and Doing Deals: Contract and Related Law, with LexisNexis Publishing.
Professor Markell also currently authors several chapters in for Collier on Bankruptcy, 15th edition revised, published by Matthew Bender & Company, Inc. He is a member of the Collier on Bankruptcy Board of Editors, and is also a revision editor for Collier's Bankruptcy Manual 3d edition, published in December, 1997.
Professor Markell is a conferee of the National Bankruptcy Conference (where he serves as a member of the Executive Committee), a member of the American Law Institute, a member of the International Insolvency Institute and a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. He currently serves as a consultant to the Advisory Committee on the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure.

From 1997 to present, Professor Markell has served as a short-term adviser on bankruptcy and commercial law for the Republic of Indonesia's Economic Law and Improved Procurement Systems Project (ELIPS Project). From December 7-17, 1997, from July 24-August 2, 1998, and from July 23, 1999-August 2, 1999, he traveled to the Republic of Indonesia, where he gave several seminars and made recommendations for bankruptcy law reform and for reform of Indonesia's personal property security law. During the fall of 2002, Professor Markell taught Advanced International Comparative Bankruptcy by interactive videoconference to the University of Indonesia in Jakarta, the University of Dipenegoro in Semarang, the Universitas Sumatera Utara in Medan, and the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta.
Professor Markell has also represented the International Bar Association (Committee J), as an official observer at UNCITRAL's working group on international contract practices, which drafted a convention on the international assignment of receivables. In this regard, he has traveled to working group sessions of UNCITRAL in between 1997 and 2000. His analysis of the finished convention, co-authored with Richard Broude, was recently published in International Insolvency.
