Message From the Dean
By Richard J. Morgan
On June 30, 2007, I will mark my tenth anniversary at UNLV, my twentieth year as a dean, and my 62nd birthday. With all of that happening on a single day, it seemed like a good time to retire from deaning, so that I can spend more time on some other pursuits and interests while I am still able to enjoy them. I look forward to spending more time with family and on my skis and mountain bike in the months
to come.
My wife and I expect to remain in Las Vegas and to remain active in the community, although we also expect to spend more time traveling and at our vacation home in Brianhead. I hope to pursue some part-time work in the private sector, while leaving plenty of time free for long-weekends.
Starting the Boyd School of Law–with lots and lots of help from others–has been the highlight of my professional life. Watching this school blossom and achieve its milestones in record time has been a great thrill. Thanks to all of you for helping to make this a fine law school.
Now that the school is well-established and well regarded, I think that it is time for a change in leadership. The next dean will help the faculty, staff and students to continue the law school’s progress, as it matures from a very good new law school to an excellent, mature school. I look forward to watching that progress with great pride and with the satisfaction of knowing that I was fortunate to have played a role in the creation of something of an enduring and special nature.
Thanks for all of your help and support over the years.
